What is the speed of the 40 ton car relative to the ground?

DMDil asked:

A 40 ton rail car and a 70 ton rail car, initially at rest, are connected together with a giant but massless compressed spring between them. When released, the 40 ton car is pushed away at a speed of 3.5 m/s relative to the 70 ton car. What is the speed of the 40 car relative to the ground
answer should be in V= ? m/s
guys,,,anyone who can help me with this?

I’m lost here …. the ground does not move. If only the 40-ton car is moving (and the 70 ton car is standing still), then the 40 ton car is moving at 3.5 m/s and that would be it’s relative speed to the ground..
    I think.
