You would be better off getting it done by a private plumbing company.

That’s a fair price. You can figure the cost of the heater, plus $75-$100 to install it.

I paid $550 and that included the heater. Buy the heater yourself at a store like Home Depot or Lowes and then call a plumber. You might save money that way. I DO NOT like Sears. Call a plumber and he can get the heater at his cost and just charge his cost plus installation.

That is cheap but I would be careful. I had Sears install some things in my house and they used substandard connectors, etc that almost caused a fire.

just go into your yellow pages under plumbing and call several places to get quotes.it also depends on the location of the hot water heater.that will determine the cost.if it’s easy in and out you shouldn’t have to pay more than $100 and they’ll usually haul it off for free to the local metal (scrap)works.the main thing is to make sure that there are no leaks and if it’s copper hook up the solder seams are clean/there should also be a stand or pan under the heater.most already have legs attached to them

Home depot has 40 gallon heaters at about $239. I agree that is a fair price if it includes everything.

servicemagic.com will get you quotes from local plumbers.

I would imagine where you live plays a part in how much it will cost.
On average I would venture to say a average of $150 labor + the cost of the hot water tank. The tank itself will vary in cost — depends on quality —- around $300 to start , and up .
It’s not really difficult at all for a homeowner to do it — if he”s a little bit handy — either installing a 220v model , or gas. It’s really not that big of a thing , and quite a simple, quick task to make “easy” money , in most cases.
In some areas — you are required by code to elevate the tank up 18″inches off the floor to the point of ignition on the tank — this would be generally where the flame is. This is to prevent a “flashback” if you’re using a solvent, etc. in the garage — since fumes tend to stay closer to the ground level.
There are some other things to remember —- common sense mostly.
If you own/buying your home — then you may be able to do the job yourself.
    Anyway —– just a few thoughts .
