How fast should I be running the 40 yard dash for baseball?

JJ_White asked:

I am 14, I want to play highschool baseball next year. How fast should I be running the 40 yard dash? What is the average speed for most highschool baseball players? And what is a fast speed for a highschool baseball player?

Thanks
I know baseball is not all about speed, but it helps

Jeff

You shouldn’t be overly concerned about that. Your speed won’t matter if you do other things well.

    Depend on the position:
    SP:5.5
    1B:5.0
    2B:4.7
    3B:4.7
    OF:4.5
    SS.4.5

    (Those are Just Hypothetical Guesses)

And to answer your second question Anything over 4.5 can be considered fast.

The 40 yard dash doesn’t really matter. You should be more concerned with how quick you get out of the box and down the line.
All in all, that should take you less than 5 seconds. I can do it in 4.7 and im not the fastest guy, so if you can do that then you’ll be in good shape.
Plus baseball isn’t all about speed. If you aren’t necessarily the fastest guy, but you can get out of the box quickly and get to full speed quickly then you will be set.

It’s not necessarily speed,it’s ability to hit, field, and throw.
